Care and Use
Merino wool – care and important information
Merino wool is one of the finest natural fibres: soft, warm and gentle on a child’s sensitive skin. To keep its qualities for a long time, it needs slightly different care than cotton.
How to care for merino wool products
- Airing instead of washing. Merino wool refreshes itself naturally, so airing it is often enough. Wash it only when it is really necessary.
- Detergent. Use a gentle liquid detergent for wool. Do not use fabric softener or bleach.
- Machine washing. Choose the wool programme, the temperature shown on the care label and a low spin speed. Turn the product inside out before washing.
- Hand washing. Use lukewarm water. Do not rub, wring or stretch the fabric.
- Removing water. Wrap the product in a towel and press gently.
- Drying. Reshape the product while it is still damp and dry it flat. Do not dry it on a radiator, in a tumble dryer or in direct sunlight.
What to keep in mind during use
Merino wool copes well with everyday moisture, but it is not a rainproof material. Prolonged soaking, e.g. in a downpour, while playing in wet snow or sitting on a wet surface, can permanently change the structure of the fibres. In such conditions, it is worth putting an extra protective layer over the wool.
Pilling is a natural process in wool. Friction, e.g. against car seat straps, a baby carrier or the floor during crawling, can cause small balls of fibre to appear on the surface. This indicates neither poor quality nor a defect in the material.
What is not a product defect
The following occurrences result from the properties of merino wool or from its use, and do not constitute a product defect:
- natural pilling of the material during wear,
- felting, shrinking or stretching of the product caused by washing or drying that does not follow the recommendations (e.g. too high a temperature, high-speed spinning, tumble dryer, radiator),
- changes in the structure or appearance of the material caused by prolonged soaking, e.g. in rain, snow or on a wet surface,
- abrasion and mechanical damage occurring during use.
